Last week I also had one of the weirdest restoration jobs ever.

It was an unfinished job, so I opened the photoshop file.
There were layers that were eyes, eyebrows, neck.
I noticed the eyes looked really wrong but at this point I didn’t realise why.
As I clicked down the layers, revealing a closed pair of eyes under the pasted on open eyes… there was something very wrong.

The person in the photo was lying in a coffin… and they were dead.

So for some reason one of the customers only had this photo of their ancestor, it was for sure from the early 1900s and they wanted to see what they would look like… alive.
They brought in photos of other relatives eyes to paste together, but the eyes were way too young.

So that was totally creepy.

"I see dead people."

A woman came in with a USB she wanted to print a photo.
The woman was wearing a fluorescent roadworks uniform, had messy blonde hair and was a typical rough aussie chick.
She approached me and asked in her withered smokers voice “Can I jus’ get this photo printed off me USB, love?”
I took her over to the photo tellers and assisted her using the program.
She says “Me daughter’s ridin’ a motorbike in the photo.”
So I’m thinking to myself  ‘Oh yeah cool, that’s really sweet a photo of a little girl riding a massive bike. OR Oh that’s cool her daughter rides pro or something.”
When I open the photo. I am shocked to find a photo with text at the top that reads.

“Beauty & The Beast”

The girl is not really a girl but a woman wearing a tiny black bikini with studs, sexily grinding on the motor bike with a seductive look.
She’s like “That’s me daughter!!  I want the biggest size print!”
When the woman came to pick the photo up – She tells me that the photo is for a male co-worker’s birthday.

She said she shouldn’t show anyone else the photo because the rest of the guys she works with will get jealous…

Uh, what the fuck? Who even gives someone a half naked photo of their own daughter!?

WHAT ELSE WOULD SOMEONE DO WITH THAT PHOTO THAN USE IT FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL NEEDS?!

Finished shooting my first major study today, went from 1-4pm and was suprisingly smooth for my first try.
We’ll see how it turns out in post.

Asides this I’ve been experimenting with a hazey technique that looks kind of cool.
The below photo is an example of this.

When I have retouched to my content, I then stamp down the same layer twice, gaussian blur them and then set the to screen. I paint (masking) out whatever details I want to retain in the model’s face/ garments.
After that I stamp down another layer use a highpass filter 20 px and blend that on overlay. I think it has an interesting effect.

I went there and checked out this wild exhibition about the history of film effects… I think. Anyway there were some fantastic interactive set ups, the link below is a crappy example of the matrix effect, “bullet time”. In the film, Neo bends backwards and the camera rotates around him.
